CVD, a Leader in Digital Display and Kiosk Solutions, introduces unique front curved door design with “tool-free” serviceability

Santa Ana, Calif. April 14, 2008 - CVD, a Premier Solution Provider to the Digital Display Market for over 10 years, announced today, the introduction of “Classique”, a self-service kiosk with innovative interior and external design achievements. The kiosk has been nominated in the Best Hardware/Innovation Design category at the KioskCom Self Service Expo in Las Vegas, NV on April 16-17 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

CVD’s “Classique” kiosk, being showcased at the Tyco Electronics Elo TouchSystems booth at the KioskCom Self Service Expo, is a uniquely designed stainless steel self-service kiosk solution offering style, flexibility and tool-less serviceability to reduce field service and ongoing maintenance costs. The unit on display is made out of stainless steel to achieve a look of “style” and “permanence” and includes a special finish to retain the original look over time and minimize fingerprints, scratches and marks to the exterior.
In designing this kiosk, a key customer requirement was self-sufficiency in order to reduce field maintenance and downtime. They wanted optimal functionality and durability, without sacrificing on the aesthetic look and feel. Through collaborative modeling, CVD together with Fabcon, our engineering and metal fabrication partner, successfully created a seamless curved front door design that exceeded our goals for look and functionality.  In addition, the kiosk uses an integrated internal frame to provide strength, rigidity and easy access and replacement to all components.  “When our customer came to us looking for a cost-effective solution that not only met their technological and branding requirements, but their field serviceability and delivery needs as well, we knew we would have to tap our best-of-breed partners to work quickly and seamlessly.  The results of this collaboration speak for themselves,” said Peter O’Brien, President of CVD.

“Our engineers worked together with the CVD team to design, prototype and bring to production the finished product.  To meet our customer’s very aggressive delivery schedule, we leveraged our 200,000 square foot manufacturing facility and resources to make this happen,” added Dave Smith, Chief Operating Officer of Fabcon, headquartered in Santa Ana, California.

Our customer not only required bullet-proof reliability but wanted a customized monitor that would work with a privacy screen and anti-glare coating.  An Elo TouchSystems touchmonitor was included in the requirements based on their reputation for quality and reliability and their ability to meet all of the customer’s requirements.

Based on the application, the kiosk also features an ID Tech insert type card reader and encrypted PIN pad, a Topaz signature pad and Zebra Swecoin letter-width thermal printer with presenter/retractor.

CVD delivered the first 100 completed Classique Kiosks in December of 2007. The Classique is capable of multiple installation environments, flexible component configurations and easily blends into varied architectural designed and color scheme environments. The solution is available in various materials and effective for numerous applications.
